Who pays import duty
For most shipping lines, the carrier delivers the parcel and your country's customs decides whether duty or VAT is due. If it is, you pay it to the carrier or customs on arrival, at the rates and thresholds your country sets. BopoBuy does not collect it and cannot predict it, because thresholds and rates differ by country and by product type.
Tax-inclusive lines
For the EU, the UK and the US we offer lines marked “tax included”: the duties and VAT are collected together with the shipping fee when you submit the parcel, and nothing is due on delivery. They are listed alongside the other lines in the shipping calculator and at the parcel step, so you can compare the total cost. Where a tax-inclusive line is not available for your country or your items, the standard lines apply.
Declared value
Every parcel carries a declared value for customs. We pre-fill it from your order and you review it before paying shipping. Keep it realistic: customs can hold or reassess parcels with values that are clearly too low, and a hold delays delivery far more than a small duty would.
Before you buy
- Check your country's duty-free threshold with your customs authority; splitting a large haul into two parcels can keep each under it, but two parcels cost two shipping fees.
- Restricted goods are a customs matter as well as a carrier matter — see what we cannot ship.
- Use the calculator with your real address: the lines and prices differ by country, and add 4–8 days for items to reach our warehouse before the international leg.
Questions
What can't be shipped from China?
Liquids, powders, pastes, pure batteries, weapons and knives, medicines, most food and any counterfeit or trademark-infringing goods cannot be shipped by our lines. See the full list on the prohibited items page.
Do I have to pay customs duties?
For most lines you are the importer and pay any duties your country charges on arrival. For the EU, UK and US we offer tax-inclusive lines where duties are collected when you pay shipping, so nothing is due on delivery.
